When you need to reinforce or rehabilitate sewer or water lines, it can seem like options are limited. You can dig up and replace the aging pipe; slip line the pipe with PVC or HDPE; or add an epoxy lining to reinforce and support the existing pipe. Even though many water utilities are familiar with the first option and may have heard of the second option, very few are familiar with what epoxies are, how they work and what benefits they can bring to your system. Here's a quick look at Warren Environmental's products and how they can help reinforce your existing system - buying extra time before you need to replace pipe systems.

What can epoxies do for your water and sewer lines?

Epoxies are typically a liquid, often mixed from two or more ingredients. Once the mixing process begins, the epoxy must be placed before it cures, or solidifies. Once curing begins, the epoxy becomes stronger and stronger until it finishes curing, at which point it has reached its final strength. Because of these properties, it can be quickly applied to an area to reinforce the existing material and prevent failure. It can work as an adhesive, holding multiple parts together, or as a finished, protective surface. Warren Environmental has developed a number of epoxy products specifically for use in the water utility industry, allowing utilities to leverage epoxy's strength to rehab aging water and sewer lines.

Warren Environmental's Non-NSF Products

Culvert draining water

When it comes to non-potable water, Warren Environmental has a number of different products that can be used to reinforce or improve strength on sewer lines. Whether you want to apply the epoxy product to the outside of the line or line the inside, these products can cure quickly, even when building a single coat of epoxy as thick as 500 mils. They can be applied on wet or dry surfaces, making them easier to apply in an area that has had a recent leak or break, while retaining integrity in harsh chemically or corrosively active environments. Trowel-on applications can be applied on vertical masonry surfaces in a single layer, while single-coat sprayed products feature exceptional cured properties.

Warren Epoxy's NSF/ANSI 61 Potable Water Products

If you need to rehab water lines that have been badly damaged or corroded, Warren Environmental has products available to meet a wide range of applications while still meeting NSF and ANSI 61 requirements. These include one-coat options which allow a thick build-up on vertical surfaces with excellent curing properties; low-build epoxies with a high-gloss finish; and trowel-on options that can be used in layers as thick as 3/4" on vertical surfaces without any sagging.

The epoxy products available from Warren Environmental offer an excellent compromise between deferring maintenance or replacement, and spending too much money replacing pipes.
