Effective catch basins are designed to catch storm water. The addition of a PPF Catch Basin Hood will help prevent pollutants and debris from flowing out of catch basins and into adjacent water ways.
The PPF Catch Basin Hood will help clean your storm water without disturbing normal flow and without filter bags or screens to clean, maintain and replace.
Today’s tougher storm water discharge standards have created a demand for catch basin separators that are effective, economical, and easy to install and maintain. The PPF Catch Basin Hood meets all these requirements.
The product provides a baffle or hood over the outlet pipe that greatly reduces pollutant discharge. Because the hood is constructed of HDPE pipe grade plate, it is lightweight yet durable.
Hoods or baffles have been around for over 100 years. Early hoods were designed as a gas trap in combined storm water and sewer systems. Because they were constructed of cast iron, they were extremely heavy and difficult to handle and install. Trapping gas can cause the deterioration of some pipes, so most hoods today are used to keep floatable oil and litter from entering the outlet pipe.
The PPF Catch Basin Hood has a series of vent holes drilled into the top to allow air into the
pipe. It is also built taller than other hoods so
that the vent holes are never closer than 1/3 of
the pipe size from the top of the pipe minimizing
the chance of allowing in contaminants.
Hoods are attached to the catch basin structure with provided stainless steel anchor studs and an oil resistant foam gasket. The gasket attaches to the hood's bolting flange and seals against the structure. The stainless steel anchor studs hold the hood firmly in position during both installation and removal.
To remove pollutants, catch basin cleaning is done with a vacuum truck. The effectiveness of the PPF Catch Basin Hood will make those cleanings more frequent, but will result in cleaner storm water discharges.
The 18" FFP Catch Basin Hood, which will cover up a 15" diameter pie, fits easily thorugh most existing catch basin frame openings--making it easy to retrofit an existing structure. Other sizes can be special ordered to fit through existing openings.
The C.B Hood can be make to fit against any structure, round or flat, concrete or plastic and for any pipe size.
Different configurations can be built to suit your requirements.
Five standard sizes are available for round or flat structures:12" C.B. Hood |
18” C.B. Hood |
24" C.B. Hood |
30” C.B. Hood |
42” C.B. Hood |
When pricing or ordering the C.B. Hood, please provide the following information:
• Outlet pipe size and type
• Flat or curved wall catch basin
• If curved wall catch basin, what diameter is it

The Catch Basin Hood shall be constructed from solid wall HDPE pipe Grade plate. The hood shall be constructed so that is forms a baffle against floatable litter and oil. The hood shall protrude at least six inches or 1/3 of the pipe’s inside diameter, whichever is greater, below the invert. The Catch Basin Hood shall be sealed to the catch basin structure with an oil resistant foam gasket. Vent holes shall be installed on the top of the hood to allow air flow into pipe. The Catch Basin Hood shall be attached to the structure with stainless steel anchor studs and nuts, allowing the hood to be removed and installed with minimum effort. The Catch Basin Hood is to be as manufactured by Plastic Pipe Fabrication or engineer approved equal.
