Although mother nature seems unwilling to let winter pass quietly into that good night, we all know the next season is just around the corner. Mud Season! Oh, you thought it was spring? Those of us who live in New England know that there is that 5th season just waiting to make a mess from our driveways to our back roads. Mud season is an insult to injury sort of situation that follows the enjoyable appearance of frost heaves that crop up just before its arrival.

Mud season is a real struggle for many municipalities who have gravel roads as part of their road system. For that 2-4-week window, depending on the weather, those gravel roads can become a time-consuming money pit that must be maintained to provide safe passable roads. Tired of chasing a problem that was only being reacted to the Town of Marlborough, NH tasked SVE Associates to come up with a long-term solution. Working with Team EJP it was decided that a test section of road would have Tensar TX-5 Geogrid applied.

Tensar Geogrid Being Laid Out

There were a number of challenges that made the test area a constant issue including; low elevation in comparison with the remainder of the road, it was close to wetland areas, had unpredictable freeze and thaw cycles and was prone to frost heaves and deep rutting. Do some of these issues sound familiar? In hopes of finding a solution to overcome all of these the town moved forward. The geogrid was applied to the area after the mud season of 2012 and evaluated through the mud season of 2013 with great results.

So, if you are looking for a permanent solution for issues that you are tired of chasing contact your Team EJP representative today. We have the products and knowledge to help you fix it for the last time. Team EJP whatever you need, whenever you need it, no matter what!
